PSC Open Day 2025: A Celebration of Language, Learning, and Student Spirit

The Preparatory Studies Centre (PSC) at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences – Shinas hosted a vibrant and successful Open Day event on April 28, 2025. The event, held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the first floor of the PSC Building, welcomed enthusiastic participation from students across both the PSC and Specialization departments. Led by the dynamic PSC Student Group, the Open Day featured a wide range of interactive English games and competitions designed to enhance language skills in a fun and engaging manner. Among the highlights were the Spelling Bee, which tested students' vocabulary and teamwork, and Draw and Guess, a fast-paced game that sparked laughter and creativity as participants illustrated given words for their teams to guess. Other activities such as Silent Headphones and the ever-popular Kahoot Quiz added excitement and variety, keeping participants entertained and challenged throughout the day. To ensure that the Open Day truly encompassed all aspects of the Preparatory Studies Centre, the activities extended beyond just English language games. One of the key highlights was the final round of the Fast Fingers Typing Competition, which took place in the Computer Labs under the guidance of Dr. Madhubala and members of the Maths and IT teams. The competition showcased students’ speed and accuracy in typing and culminated in the awarding of certificates and tokens of appreciation to the winners and participants. The student-led initiative was spearheaded by Mr. Utba Al Waaili, the Student Group Team Leader, whose well-organized team ensured a smooth and memorable event. Their efforts were closely supported by Mr. Given Chakalisa, Coordinator of the Student Support Committee, and Dr. Madhubala from the Staff Support Committee, both of whom provided valuable guidance and encouragement throughout the planning and execution.The Open Day was further graced by the presence of Ms. Amal Al Jahwari, Head of the Preparatory Studies Centre, and Heads of Section Ms. Amira Al Balushi and Dr. Gregory Danguilan, whose support and engagement added immense value to the occasion. PSC staff members also attended in good numbers, showing strong solidarity with the students and reinforcing the Centre’s culture of collaboration and student development.Reflecting the spirit of community and active learning, the event succeeded in its mission to create an enjoyable and educational platform for students. It stood as a shining example of teamwork, creativity, and the positive outcomes of student-led initiatives within the university setting.
