An awareness event in celebration of World Mental Health Day at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Sur

With the aim of raising the level of awareness of mental health issues, and devoting efforts to support mental health, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, represented by the Guidance and Guidance Department of the Student Affairs Center, organized yesterday morning an awareness-raising event in Al-Sharqiya Hall, coinciding with the celebration of World Mental Health Day, which falls on the tenth of October. Every year, under the slogan (Mental Health is a Universal Human Right), the event is sponsored by Dr. Rashid bin Nasser Al-Matani, Assistant President of the University in Sur, and in the presence of the distinguished Vice Presidents of the University, the heads of the academic, academic, support and administrative departments, the academic and administrative staff, and the university’s employees and students.

           The ceremony began with Quranic verses from the Holy Quran, and then a speech urging us to talk to others to feel comfortable and not be affected by stigma. Psychological comfort is a human right for everyone, and a practical experiment was conducted that emphasizes the importance of positive affirmations and phrases, talking to ourselves in a positive way, and not being influenced by others, or talking to ourselves in a negative way.

Then Dr. Al-Matani, Assistant President of the University, presented pictures and gave his speech about the importance of mental health and awareness of mental illnesses, and working to solve problems that hinder psychological well-being, as well as working to treat psychological disorders that have emerged with the requirements of the times. There are several ways for individuals to enjoy good mental health, such as satisfaction with the life they live, resilience and adaptation to deal with challenges, the ability to deal with stress, and the availability of social support. He pointed out the importance of enhancing mental health through physical activity, and forming good social relationships to develop emotional intelligence skills, Communicate with others".

On the sidelines of the celebration, there was an exhibition that contained three sections, the general information section, which included the parts of the brain in the human body and their roles, and the importance of organizing time, studying, and teamwork. The Department of Visual and Mental Nutrition addressed the importance of reading, as it is food for the soul and mind. There are also 12 laws in psychology that contribute to improving human life. The other section is a department for psychotherapy. Successful methods of psychotherapy include meditation, walking on the sea, and motivating oneself with positivity and optimism. Writing is also considered a A successful and useful method, where a person resorts to writing his diary, using reflective writing, free blogging, and drawing as well. There are also some guidelines that help improve mood, such as adequate sleep, time management, and self-talk.

It is worth noting that the exhibition contains practical applications in the field of mental health, which attracted the admiration of attendees.
