The Innovation and Technology Transfer Department functions as an essential link between academia and industry, facilitating technology transfer and advancing initiatives that support organizations in promoting innovation. The department aims to empower UTAS students and staff to become skilled innovators, thereby contributing to Oman's economic development. It also manages the university's intellectual property (IP) portfolio for licensing and utilization.

Our objective is to foster innovation, enable knowledge transfer, and stimulate significant collaborations that transform ideas into reality. The department is committed to a range of activities aimed at advancing innovation and technology transfer within the University. It contributes to the development of the University's Strategic Plan, particularly in areas related to innovation and technology transfer, ensuring alignment with broader institutional goals. Additionally, the department develops an annual work plan, oversees its implementation, and provides updates on its achievements. It is also responsible for ensuring compliance with quality standards and recommending improvements where necessary.

Furthermore, the department fosters a culture of innovative solutions to meet the needs of industry and the local community, while encouraging the growth of multidisciplinary research. It closely monitors initiatives related to innovation, technology transfer, and intellectual property, ensuring effective policy implementation. In alignment with the University's Communication Policy, the department takes necessary actions to promote technology transfer and foster innovative development within the local community and branch.

The department also communicates the annual innovation and technology transfer plan to branch staff members, outlining available financial resources and specific requirements. It applies performance indicators related to innovation and technology transfer, focusing on both the inputs and outputs of innovation. Another key responsibility is managing intellectual property rights and commercializing technologies developed through university research or student projects, as well as marketing these developed technologies and managing intellectual property rights for the branch and its business partners across various sectors.

Additionally, the department designs and implements professional development activities for its staff in collaboration with relevant organizations. It actively contributes to improving its services and fulfills other obligations within its scope of competence.
