ELC Speaking Club

On May 2nd, 2023, the ELC Speaking Club hosted a session with an external guest, Mr. Ramesh Gopalan. This was under Ms. Kanak Arora's direction. Mr. Gopalan, the CEO of Orbit Events Management and one of the Toastmasters of Oman, presented on “Art and Science of public speaking”. The aim was to inspire students to take the first step towards improving their speaking skills. The presentation was divided into two parts. The speaker talked about the science behind speeches and explained the artistic aspect of public speaking. The guest also shared valuable lessons from his personal experience. Students were assured that once they implement the science of public speaking, they can master the artistic aspect of their craft through practice. The highlight of the session was when he invited some students to stand up and describe images displayed on the screen. There were hesitations but, in the end, everyone enjoyed the experience and appreciated the lessons.

Mr. Ramesh ended the session with a statement of his belief that “Communication in general and public speaking, in particular, are life skills. In addition to becoming proficient in our academics, if we invest our time developing this skill, our chances of success in our career and social life are much higher."

Many students and teachers attended the session and found it practical and fruitful. As a token of gratitude, Mr. Ramesh was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by ELC Head Mr. Mohammed Al Kharusi.
