The Fashion Design Program in UTAS aims to provide students with a high-quality fashion education according to the global job requirements, local market needs and adapted to the local social norms.

 

To help students learn and practice skills that are necessary for graduates to be able to integrate in the professional industry. To create a bridge between the young entrepreneurs and local fashion industry professionals and be involved in professional integration of our students and graduates.

 

 

The main objectives of this program are:

 

  •  To create and environment which is academic, and which will promote the intellect and the professional development of students and faculty.
  •  To develop and maintain a commitment among students to scholar and creative activities.
  •  To provide education for students to meet the international and local technological demands and demands of the industry and offer courses to provide necessary base for the career growth in the field of fashion and fields related to it.
  •  To provide knowledge and experience in responding to local and international market opportunities with innovative products and creative designs.
  •  To provide courses for academic disciplines including a set of knowledge in textile materials, design fundamentals, apparel assembly and construction, apparel production, business fundamentals, marketing fundamentals, sourcing, data mining of market information, trends forecasting, new developments in material science.

 

By completion of the program graduates will be able to:

 

  •  Manage the fashion design process from conception through to final styling. Conduct the market research to identify new trends, textiles, and techniques, seek design inspiration and select seasonal themes. Generate concepts and select a brainstorm team. Assist during runways, photoshoots, cast models.
  •  Work closely with the members of the design, product development, sales and planning teams, ensuring all tasks are completed by scheduled deadlines, follow up with apparel companies regarding the orders of new collections after fashion shows and new stores openings.
  •  Research, select and purchase quality products and materials, create special orders for apparel companies in agreement with the business strategy.
  •  Work with project team and control project cost, ensuring the best offers, deliver a cost control report to the management.
  •  Closely monitor the production process.
  •  Assist during Haute Couture production process and fittings.
  •  Design handmade embroidery and apply it using hand-executed techniques.
  •  Create attractive visual display of products.
  •  Build fashion marketing strategy to promote any fashion or service to a potential customer.
  •  Assist in fashion marketing campaigns including ads in newspapers, magazines, and social media platforms, along with commercials on television.

 

  •  Theoretical exam: basic knowledge of subject matter is required.
  •  Interview: assessment of student’s passion for subject matter.
  •  Completion of the Foundation Program.
