Industrial Visit to Security Operations Center (SOC)

On 20 April 2026, 18 students from Department of Computing and Information Sciences, University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Nizwa, visited the Security Operations Center (SOC) of Insight Information Security LLC in Al- Khuwair, Muscat. The visit was organized by Dr. G. Mary Amirtha Saygayee with support from the company. Founded in 2003 and licensed by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Insight has over two decades of cybersecurity experience, with its SOC services established in 2018. During the visit, students learned how the SOC works and how cybersecurity teams monitor systems 24/7 to detect and respond to threats. They were introduced to different roles in the SOC, including L1, L2, and L3 analysts, and understood how incidents are investigated step by step.
The session covered key cybersecurity services such as SIEM monitoring, SOAR, threat hunting, malware analysis, and incident response, along with advanced tools and technologies used in modern security environments. Students also gained insights into client engagement models, service-level agreements, and the practical challenges faced by cybersecurity providers. The visit helped students connect their classroom learning with practical industry knowledge. It also gave them a better understanding of career opportunities in cybersecurity and how organizations in Oman protect their digital systems.
