Workshop on Vulnerability Management

The Department of Computing and Information Sciences at UTAS–Nizwa conducted a technical workshop on Vulnerability Management on 5 May 2026 (11:00 AM–1:00 PM), delivered by Ms.Aisha Al Badwawi, Cybersecurity Solution Integration Specialist at Insight Information Security, who possesses seven years of professional experience in cybersecurity integration and operations. The workshop was designed to enhance participants’ conceptual and applied understanding of vulnerability management as a core component of cybersecurity risk mitigation. It addressed the systematic identification, classification, assessment, and remediation of security vulnerabilities prior to exploitation. The technical content included the distinction between vulnerability, threat, and risk, an overview of the vulnerability management lifecycle, and the role of continuous assessment in strengthening organizational security posture, supported by real-world case examples. A practical component was incorporated to introduce students to fundamental techniques of vulnerability identification and analytical assessment. The session was organized by Dr. G. Mary Amirtha Sagayee and attended by students from Ethical Hacking, Malware Analysis, and Digital Forensics, along with the faculty Dr. Narayanasamy, thereby reinforcing an applied learning framework that integrates theoretical cybersecurity principles with practical skill development.
