Engineering student’s Industrial Visit to Oman Electricity Transmission Company

An industrial visit was arranged to OETC (Oman Electricity Transmission Company) on 16/04/2025 for the B.Tech Electrical Engineering students. A total of 14 students, accompanied by Dr. Muthukumar Selvakkannu, visited the premises from 8:20 AM to 11:00 AM. Mr. Al Julanda Al Nabhani (Protection Engineer) and Mr. Al Husain Al Sulaimi (Operation and Maintenance Engineer) explained all the processes in detail.
The 220kV Air-Insulated Substation (AIS) located in Nizwa is a critical part of the Sultanate of Oman’s high-voltage transmission network. Operated under the Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), this substation plays a key role in ensuring reliable power transmission in the Al Dakhiliyah region. This AIS facility steps down electricity from 220kV to lower voltage levels for distribution, connecting major generation sources to regional and local loads. Equipped with essential infrastructure such as power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, current and voltage transformers, and protection systems, the substation is designed to manage load flow, ensure grid stability, and support future network expansion.
