Smart Accounting

On March 17, 2024, the Business Studies Department's Accounting Section at UTAS-Muscat hosted a workshop titled "Smart Accounting". The workshop aimed to provide accounting students with knowledge of the most recent accounting trends as well as the profession's changing landscape. Ms. Nawras Al-Dhafri, a certified accounting trainer, presented an engaging presentation that highlighted the following critical areas:

     · Smart Accounting Technologies: The workshop has explored the integration of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, technological leapfrogging, and digital economics into accounting practices.

    · The impact of automation on the accounting profession: The workshop discussed the influence of automation on the accounting profession, including the new skills needed for future accountants.  

    · Future of Accounting Education: The session addressed the need to adapt the accounting curriculum to prepare students for the future of work.

    · Career Opportunities: It also discussed the new career paths emerging within the accounting profession due to technological advancements.

The students had the opportunity to learn about the practical impact of Artificial Intelligence on accounting in a variety of areas, including primary entries, financial statements, and other financial reports, as well as auditing. The interactive seminar featured real-world examples and open conversations.

By participating in this workshop, the students gained valuable knowledge about the future direction of accounting and the skills they will need to succeed in the profession.
