Pharmacy Department's Involvement in Oman Pharmaceutical Society's Event at Novotel Muscat Hotel, Supported by Bristol Myers

Muscat, December 20, 2023 - The Oman Pharmaceutical Society (OMPH) organized a practical event for the Pharmacy Club on Wednesday evening at Novotel Muscat, generously sponsored by Bristol Myers. This event showcased presentations on diverse pharmaceutical subjects delivered by a distinguished group of pharmacists, with notable involvement from the esteemed Pharmacy Department at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences.

The occasion also served as a platform to commemorate the society's accomplishments in 2023, uniting members and participants for an enlightening Pharmacy Club session.

One of the highlights of the evening was a scientific presentation delivered by Dr. Jokha AL-Qassabi from the Pharmacy Department at UTAS. Her project, titled "Exploring renal pharmacist’ knowledge and management of drug dosing for patients with chronic kidney disease: an online questionnaire survey," emphasized the crucial role of pharmacists in adjusting and maintaining dosage for those with chronic kidney disease. Dr. Jokha AL-Qassabi underscored the importance of translating emerging evidence regarding changes to non-renal routes of metabolism and applying this knowledge to calculate proper doses for patients with chronic kidney disease.

Furthermore, Ph. Sumaiya AL Zaabi served as the chairperson for the sessions, overseeing the involvement of pharmacy lecturers and students who actively engaged in the event.

In addition, students Tamader Al-Toubi and Rawan AL-Khatariya, representing the Pharmacy Department, were selected by the Oman Pharmaceutical Society to present a scientific event. Their topic, "Patient-Centered Care," covered crucial points designed to extract maximum benefit from the subject. The presentation was highly engaging, with the goal of further developing it for implementation in hospitals and healthcare centers. The objective is to enhance patient confidence in medical teams and improve methods of interaction with them.

The selection of the Pharmacy Department from UTAS to lead this scientific activity showcased the recognition of their expertise within the Oman Pharmaceutical Society. The event marked a significant step towards advancing pharmaceutical knowledge and fostering collaboration within the Oman pharmaceutical community.
