Anthology

ELC Level 2, Group 7 students launched a creative writing anthology, Crying is Necessary, but not a Solution, on May 17, 2023. Two teachers also contributed, making the anthology egalitarian.
Early May, 2 AM, a grainy photo flashed on my smartphone. The boys were still at the beach! Happy and grainy. Give them work, they execute independently. Girls as well. But girls are reliable, 66 or 19. L2:7 girls collect papers for absentees, send reminders and photos of new vocabulary scribbled on the whiteboard; drink Spanish latte; and are bold in asking an audience member to turn off their phone. About the teacher-contributors: one wrote of being there for everyone else but herself. The other teacher was praying when something hit her hard: a poem germinated. During the readings, there was palpable writer-reader connection. The launch ended with writers signing copies of Crying is Necessary, but not a solution.
Bionote: Yasmin Ladha writes poetry, fiction, and non-fiction.
