A field trip to the Madayn Industrial Innovation Academy (MIIA) at Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM)

 

The Business Studies department UTAS Muscat, organized a field trip to the Madayn Industrial Innovation Academy (MIIA) at Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) on May 14, 2023. The purpose of this trip was to expose the students enrolled in the Talent Management Course to understand the practical aspects of applying the concepts and theories they learned in class. The students also had the opportunity to gain insights into how the MIIA manages the incubators and supports the development of innovative industries in Oman. HR specialists in UTAS Muscat HR department also participated in this trip to gain valuable experiences and share their expertise.

The trip included a presentation which explained the vision, mission, and objectives of the academy. In addition, highlighted the six strategic programs that MIIA oversees to enhance the performance, sustainability, and local content of the factories in Madayn's industrial cities. The students were particularly interested in learning about the 'Connection' program, which aims at linking the local products and services of companies operating in Madayn's industrial cities with the government tenders.

The presentation was followed by a tour of the MIIA facilities, where the students interacted with some of the incubated projects and entrepreneurs. They witnessed how MIIA provides technical, financial, and administrative support to these projects and helps them overcome the challenges they face. The students also learned about how MIIA aligns its goals with Oman Vision 2040 and contributes to enhancing the competitiveness and diversification of Oman's economy.

The field trip was a valuable learning experience for the students, as it helped them understand how talent management is applied in a real-world setting. It also inspired them to think creatively and innovatively about their future careers and aspirations. The students expressed their gratitude to MIIA for hosting them and to their course instructor for arranging this trip.
