Workshop for Bachelor Students on Taxation in Sultanate of Oman by the Oman Tax Authority

On 9th of May, 2024 a workshop was organized in New Building – N337 from 10.00 a.m. – 12.00 noon by Course lecturer Ms. Sameena Begum and Mr. Hassan Sanadi in collaboration with Oman Tax Authority for introducing the students of bachelor level with different aspects of taxation in the Sultanate of Oman.
The event aimed to introduce the realm of taxation and enlighten the future workforce about its significance in Oman's economic landscape.
The session commenced with a warm welcome by Hassan Sanadi introducing the distinguished representative of the Oman Tax Authority. This included Tax inspector Mr. Zakariya Zayid Al-Saadi & Mr. Issa Suleiman Al-Qannubi. Both the speakers highlighted the pivotal role of taxation in sustaining Oman's development initiatives, funding public services, and ensuring socio-economic stability.
In all around 70 students attended this session. The audience was introduced to the fundamental concepts of taxation, elucidating the various types of taxes levied in Oman, including income tax, corporate tax, value-added tax (VAT), Excise duty and withholding tax. Through insightful examples and interactive discussions, students gained a nuanced understanding of different aspects of taxation laws in Oman.
The speakers also emphasized on the importance of compliance and procedures involved shedding light on the legal obligations of taxpayers and the various processes involved. An enlightening segment of the talk explored the growth of taxation policies in Sultanate of Oman over its period of inception and how taxation emerged as a cornerstone of Oman's development agenda.
The event concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, where students had the opportunity to seek clarifications, share insights, and voice their concerns regarding taxation. The interactive dialogue fostered a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of tax policy and its implications on society.
Both the speakers have been presented with a certificate of appreciation by Ms. Sameena Begum for devoting their time and efforts.
