Webinar on Intelligent Controller based MPPT Controller for Wind Power Generation System

The Professional Development Committee (PDC) team of Engineering/UTAS-Nizwa, organized an online seminar titled “Intelligent Controller based MPPT Controller for Wind Power Generation System” on 12th May 2026. The session was conducted by Dr. Annamalai Muthu, Lecturer in the Department of Engineering, College of Engineering and Technology. The session began with an welcome speech by Mr.Taufeeq, the engineering department's PDC Team member.

The presentation explained the basic structure of a WECS, which includes a wind turbine, generator, rectifier, DC-DC converter, MPPT controller, and load or grid interface. The MPPT controller plays a vital role in maintaining the operating point of the system at maximum efficiency despite varying environmental conditions.

The work mainly focused on intelligent controllers such as Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). These intelligent techniques are more effective than conventional controllers like PI and PID because they can handle nonlinear characteristics and sudden variations in wind speed more efficiently.

The Fuzzy Logic Controller uses linguistic variables such as low, medium, and high to make control decisions based on predefined rules. It provides faster response, reduced oscillations, and improved stability without requiring an exact mathematical model of the system. The ANFIS controller combines the advantages of fuzzy logic and neural networks. It has self-learning capability and provides better adaptability and accuracy in tracking the maximum power point. The presentation also discussed the implementation and simulation of the intelligent MPPT controller using MATLAB and Simulink.

The event reflected UTAS-Nizwa’s continued commitment to fostering research excellence and professional growth among faculty members and researchers. The session ended with vote of thanks by Dr.Fakrudeen, PDC team coordinator of Engineering Department.
