Seminar Energy-Efficient Hardware Design for AI Computing

 

Research and Consultancy Department and Engineering Department, UTAS Nizwa, successfully conducted a seminar titled “Energy-Efficient Hardware Design for AI Computing” on 4 February 2026 at the UTAS-North Campus.

The seminar was delivered by Dr. Fakhrul Zaman Rokhani, Associate Professor at University Putra Malaysia and Vice President (Education & Communications), IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS) Society, who visited UTAS Nizwa from Malaysia.

The event commenced with a warm welcome extended to the guest speaker by Dr. Saif Al Bimani, DAVC – Postgraduate Studies, Research and Innovation, Dr. Nasser Al-Hadhrami, Head of Research and Consultancy Department, and Dr. Wisam Fahmi Ibrahim Al-Azzo, Head of Engineering Department.

At the beginning of his talk, Dr. Fakhrul highlighted the importance of the IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS) Society, elaborating on its global role, membership benefits, and the process of joining the society. He emphasized how IEEE CAS supports academic growth, professional networking, and research collaboration.

Dr. Fakhrul then delivered a highly informative and engaging presentation on energy-efficient hardware design for AI computing, focusing on current research trends and challenges. He discussed the growing demand for low-power and energy-aware hardware architectures in modern electronic devices such as mobile phones, smart sensors, autonomous vehicles, and other intelligent systems, where AI applications are rapidly expanding.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Saif Al Bimani, followed by the presentation of a certificate of appreciation and traditional Omani sweets to the guest speaker as a token of gratitude.

The entire seminar was coordinated by Dr. Muhammad Khurram, Research Coordinator, Engineering Department. Dr. Fakhrul expressed great appreciation for the academic environment and research culture at UTAS Nizwa, and both parties showed strong interest in future collaboration, particularly in joint research projects and conference organization.

The seminar was well received by faculty members and staff, contributing positively to research awareness and international academic engagement at UTAS Nizwa.
