From classroom to workplace, the importance of HSE in all fields

A Live Interactive Seminar entitled ‘FROM CLASSROOM TO WORKPLACE, THE IMPORTANCE OF HSE IN ALL FIELDS’ was organized on April 23rd 2025, by the College of Engineering and Technology, UTAS-Nizwa in Adam Hall. The session began with a welcome note by Dr. Wisam Al Azzo, H.O.D., College of Engineering and Technology at UTAS-Nizwa (north campus), who interacted with the audience, especially with the students of Diploma 1st year discussing about the importance of health and safety issues and the recommended PPEs. Welcome address for the seminar was given by a student of 1st year Diploma, Ms. Maha Al Gharibi and introduction of the invited speaker Mr. Obaid AL Wahibi, was done by Mr. Gorachand Mohapatra, lecturer and course coordinator for 1st year Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) course. Dedicated faculty members and all the students studying the HSE course in the current semester attended the seminar.
During the presentation, the speaker Mr. Obaid AL Wahibi interacted with the audience with innovative questions which made the session lively and interesting. By realizing the importance and gaining necessary knowledge of HSE, the economy of a country can thrive, he said. Also, the speaker shared some data of work related accidents due to lack of awareness and training in the field of HSE and shared pictures of collapse of buildings incurring heavy losses because of lack of safety.
The meeting ended with a vote of thanks and presenting a Momento and appreciation certificate to the speaker by Dr. Sabareesaan, Head of Unit. (M&I). This seminar was immensely useful for course tutors and students in gaining further insight into health, safety and environment issues.
