Advancing Sustainable Tourism: Insights from the 1st International Conference for Academics and Professionals on Tourism and Hospitality

 

Responding to an invitation from UTAS-Salalah, the College of Economics and Business Administration (CEBA), under the leadership of Dr. Mohammed Ali Ahmed Obaid, actively encouraged faculty members to present their research at the 1st International Conference for Academics and Professionals on Tourism and Hospitality. With strong support from UTAS-Nizwa’s Assistant Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mohammed Al Mamari, and Deputy Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Sarah Al Bahlani, along with Head of Unit, Mr. Khalid Al Shanfari, the university proudly selected Dr. Jeannette Ong Ee-Lyn to participate in the conference.

Dr. Jeannette Ong Ee-Lyn presented her research paper, titled "Green Certification and Sustainable Travel Behaviors: Impact of Eco-Labels on Sustainable Tourism in Oman," at the 1st International Conference for Academics and Professionals on Tourism and Hospitality, held from February 17 to 19, 2025, at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah. Her research received notable recognition, securing the third-best full research paper award at the conference.

The three-day event featured:

  • • Eight dialogue sessions
  • • Fifteen scientific tracks
  • • Five specialized workshops
  • • Thirty-seven research papers on tourism and hospitality

Key themes included tourism sustainability, the role of technology in enhancing tourist experiences, and strategic investment opportunities. The conference also addressed challenges and prospects in Oman’s tourism sector, offering valuable scientific insights to support policymakers in crafting effective strategies for the industry’s growth.
