Semester 1

Introduction to Business is an introductory level course designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge of business terminologies, concepts and business issues with the intent of helping students develop a viable business vocabulary, foster critical thinking and analytical thinking, and refine business decision-making skills.

This course examines the business function of Marketing. Students will learn how marketers deliver value in satisfying customer needs and want, determine which target markets the organization can best serve, and decide upon appropriate products, services, and programs to serve these markets. Further, the students develop a solid understanding of key concepts and terminologies of marketing and how it fits within the organization.

This course is taught during the first year of diploma-level study. It is designed to provide students with basic knowledge in economics like economic systems, economics as science and art, positive and normative economics. It covers the aspects of both micro-economics and macroeconomics. Microeconomics includes understanding consumer and producer behavior through demand and supply analysis. The concepts are elaborated with graphs and tables. Fixing of price through consumer equilibrium is elaborated with graphs and tables. Shits in Price and quality equilibrium with effect of determinants of demand and supply is explained through Shits in Demand and Supply curve. Macroeconomics includes various variables related to National Income, GDP, GNP, NDP, NNP, PI and PDI. It also covers Functioning of Money and Banking by including Supply and Demand of money and explains banking and its functions. It also explains the concept of Fiscal and Monetary policy in relation to national budget process. The explanation includes Government Revenue and Capital receipts. Finally, the course provides students with an understanding of economy and budget process within the Omani context.

This course in Principles of Accounting (1) is an introduction to the basic accounting concepts and selected accounting practices and to introduce students to the role of, and the processes involved in planning and decision making within the business environment. This course focuses on the accounting cycle, journal entries related to sales, purchases, collection, payments and expenses, posting, trial balance and preparation of basic financial statements – the balance sheet and income statement.

 

Semester 2

The course aims to introduce students to the fundamental principles and applications underlying finance and financial decision-making by individuals and firms. It provides a broad understanding of financial theory, particularly in relation to the time value of money, interest, investments, and risk & returns. It also explains the importance of finance, financial markets, and institutions to individuals, firms, and society in general.

The integrated management of this network is a critical determinant of success in today’s competitive environment. With increasing competition around the globe, supply chain and logistics management is both a challenge and an opportunity for companies. Hence a strong understanding of supply chain management concepts and the ability to recommend improvements should be in the toolbox of all managers. This course includes, the major supply chain processeincludingde the importance of supply chain and logistics, Purchasing and Procurement, Demand and Inventory management, Aggregate Planning, Warehousing as well Transportation and Distribution. The essentials of e-logistics and how technology drives the logistics sector are given importance to this course. The course aims to explain to students the evolution of HRDR-Human Resources Development and Retention and introduce its key concepts in organizations. It provides students with an understanding of the processes of designing HRD- Human Resources Development systems and HRR- Human Resources Retention models to be applied in an organizational context. In addition, the course explains the competency mapping in relation to employees’ career development and elucidates HRD initiatives and HRR required strategies and audits. It also provides an explanation of the process of applying HRD in an international context and provides an understanding of the significance of establishing a relationship between HRD and the latest technological revolution.

This course will be provided during the second semester of the second year diploma level as a college requirement in order to teach students how to address business challenges using statistical methods. This course teaches the fundamentals of statistics, including measurement scales and data types. In addition, students will learn to develop and understand tables and graphs to organize and present various data sets. In addition, this course covers the application of descriptive statistical methods, as well as the computation and interpretation of Simple Linear Regression and Correlation Analysis results. Furthermore, this course assists students in analyzing and applying the estimate of confidence intervals and the parts of hypothesis testing. Apply the nonparametric Chi-Square test to determine independence and goodness-of-fit, apply time series ideas to real-world data and evaluate the findings of the analysis to demonstrate your understanding. Besides, students will perform descriptive and inferential data analysis using Excel and SPSS.

This course is a pre-requisite for graduation project A. The course is taught in the first semester of advanced diploma level. It provides students with a clear understanding of the process of social science research. Students gain hands on experience in: identifying research gaps and problems; analyzing literature review critically and formulating research aim and objectives. The course explains the process of designing a thorough research methodology by teaching students: how to create a data collection instrument/method; which research type and design to adopt, what type of sampling technique to be used to identify the targeted research respondents/participants and how to analyze data by using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. The course also aims to familiarize students with the significance of research ethics and integrity. Moreover, it provides students with an understanding of how to link their research findings with the arguments from relevant empirical research studies; and how to show the contribution of their research study to the existing knowledge.

This course is offered in the first semester of the advanced diploma level. The course aims to introduce students to the scope and key concepts of information systems and the evolution of human resource information systems in organizations. Additionally, it provides an understanding of system selection evaluation by means of needs analysis and decision-making. It also explains the steps of designing and analyzing the cost-benefit of an HR system. Moreover, the course gives an understanding the privacy and security issues emerged during the implementation stage of an HR system,

This course is offered in the first semester of the advanced diploma level. The course aims to introduce students to the key concepts of organizations’ cultural diversity. It provides an understanding of diversity’s dimensions and its underlying assumptions in organizational culture. It examines the managing diversity evolution from affirmative action and establishes a mutual understanding of cultural competency and diversity and inclusion. It also introduces students to new management diversity trends that arose within organizations

It provides an understanding of the key models, approaches, procedures, and techniques and explains different counseling and mentoring styles applied in organizations. Additionally, the course provides an understanding of the process of developing and managing an EAP policy. It provides an understanding of different teamwork management theories and approaches. It also explains the key role of team leaders and the skills required in leaders for developing high-performance teams. Additionally, the course provides an understanding of the process of how teams are developed and explains the role of communication and management games in teambuilding. Moreover, it introduces students to the best practices followed by organizations in managing teams.

This course is offered in the second semester of the advanced diploma level. The course aims to introduce students to the key concepts of employee relations and explains internal and external factors influencing employee relations at the workplace. It also explains different theories and approaches to employee relations and conflict management, the course assists students in exploring the issues and causes of employee turnover and methods of retention. Additionally, it explains the ways of applying both the Omnia Labor Law and International Labor Organizations in the Omani context. Furthermore, it introduces students to the new employee relations’ global trends and issues.

This course is offered in the second semester of the advanced diploma level. The course aims to provide students with an understanding of the process of internationalization by introducing different dimensions of the global business environment. It explains the process of establishing a cultural foundation of international human resource management and elucidates the local and international HRM practices. Additionally, the course provides an understanding of staffing functions, performance management, and compensation practices in the international context. It also explains the latest issues in managing international organizational activities and introduces students to the new IHRM trends and practices.

This course is offered in the second semester of the advanced diploma level. The course aims to introduce students to the key concepts and principles of total quality management. It provides students with in-hand experience in analyzing TQM requirements of local organizations and in the process of forming teams for implementation. In addition, the course explains the process of benchmarking and methods and procedures of quality assessment, quality control, and continuous improvement applied in organizations. Furthermore, it provides an understanding of ISO concepts, standards, and the process of standards establishment.

This course is offered in the second semester of the advanced diploma level. The course aims to introduce students to the key training processes and explains the role of training in the contemporary workplace. It provides students with an understanding of the learning theories, and the process of evaluating the traits of exceptional trainers. Additionally, the course focuses on the benefits and challenges of various training methods and explains the process of training needs assessment. It explains the process of training activities coordination at the workplace. Furthermore, the course provides in- hands experience in designing centered-training activities and in understanding issues of effective training delivery in organizations. The course aims to explain to students the evolution of HRDR-Human Resources Development and Retention and introduce its key concepts in organizations. It provides students with an understanding of the processes of designing HRD- Human Resources Development systems and HRR- Human Resources Retention models to be applied in an organizational context. In addition, the course explains the competency mapping in relation to employees’ career development and elucidates HRD initiatives and HRR required strategies and audits. It also provides an explanation of the process of applying HRD in an international context and provides an understanding of the significance of establishing a relationship between HRD and the latest technological revolution.

This course will be provided during the second semester of the second year diploma level as a college requirement in order to teach students how to address business challenges using statistical methods. This course teaches the fundamentals of statistics, including measurement scales and data types. In addition, students will learn to develop and understand tables and graphs to organize and present various data sets. In addition, this course covers the application of descriptive statistical methods, as well as the computation and interpretation of Simple Linear Regression and Correlation Analysis results. Furthermore, this course assists students in analyzing and applying the estimate of confidence intervals and the parts of hypothesis testing. Apply the nonparametric Chi-Square test to determine independence and goodness-of-fit, apply time series ideas to real-world data and evaluate the findings of the analysis to demonstrate your understanding. This course discusses the fundamentals of occupational health and safety at work as well as its significance. Further, explains the organization's structure for maintaining worker health and safety, primary risk factors for illness and injury and creates initiatives to remove workplace hazards and the principles and procedures involved in the evaluation and management of physical, chemical, biological, and psychosocial workplace risks. Besides, it analyzes the various requirements for recordkeeping in order to collect reliable data and understand it to detect workplace trends and challenges, Identify the regulatory requirements, best practices, and industry standards required to sustain Occupational Health and Safety in the workplace.

This course will be offered during the first semester of the Bachelor's degree program in order to give students with the knowledge and skills essential for Human resource planning in a business. Students should be able to describe Human Resource Planning and its related processes in an organization, as well as evaluate the significance of Job analysis in HR Planning and the HRP Models. Further, this course covers the Human Capital concerns that influence HR planning effectiveness and the issues of Human Capital. This course focuses on describing the concept of Performance Management in an organization, the performance appraisal process, and analyzing the various performance appraisal methods and faults. In addition, it examines the relationship between performance management and productivity, as well as the relationship between performance management and remuneration and benefits. Graduation Project A aims to develop research capability, in order to address specific real-life problems within the context of the study of the area. The course will practically expose the student to the main components of the research framework and namely problem identification, literature review, research design, and ethical issues in research.

This course will examine court systems, obligations and contracts law, employment law, and partnership and corporation. It is offered for bachelor students.
