IT Department, UTAS-Nizwa Hosts Insightful Session on Risk Management in Digital Transformation
The Department of Information Technology at UTAS-Nizwa recently hosted an engaging guest lecture on Risk Management in Digital Transformation, featuring expert speaker Mr. Guruvayurappan. The session speaker was introduced by Dr. Mary Amirtha Sagayee. Mr. Guruvayurappan began by emphasizing the strategic importance of digital transformation and its profound impact on business operations, organizational culture, and customer experience. He highlighted the need for robust risk management frameworks to support successful digital initiatives, using examples from industries like cloud-based healthcare systems, e-learning platforms, and telecom service portals. These sectors present unique risks and opportunities, underscoring the importance of addressing cybersecurity, operational, and compliance risks.
A central theme of the lecture was the ISO 31000 framework, with Mr. Guruvayurappan explaining its principles, processes, and the essential roles of leadership, governance, and stakeholder involvement in effective risk management. He also covered various risk assessment and evaluation techniques and shared strategies for risk treatment and mitigation, drawing on real-world case studies from both UTAS University and the banking sector.To provide practical experience, Mr. Guruvayurappan guided students through a group activity where they selected a digital transformation scenario, developed a digital readiness checklist, and identified associated risks. The session concluded with students receiving templates and clear instructions to apply these concepts.
The lecture wrapped up with heartfelt appreciation from Dr. Mary, Ms. Sonia, and the postgraduate students, who praised Mr. Guruvayurappan for his insightful and engaging presentation.
