Configuring SEB for Controlled Testing in Moodle Environments

The IT Department at UTAS Nizwa conducted an informative workshop titled “Configuring SEB for Controlled Testing in Moodle Environments” on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM in Room A134. The session was facilitated by Ms. Alice M. Lontok from the SEDT section. Dr. Mohammed Ambusaidi of HoU of NWCS also graced the session.
With 28 years of dedicated experience in education, Ms. Lontok has been at the forefront of integrating technology into the curriculum and fostering innovative learning environments through platforms such as Moodle LMS and Oracle Academy. In this workshop, she emphasized the growing importance of exam integrity in online assessments and introduced participants to Safe Exam Browser (SEB) a free and powerful tool designed to create a secure, controlled testing environment by restricting access to unauthorized resources during exams.
Participants were guided through the entire process of configuring SEB with Moodle, including basic setup, compatibility testing, and advanced security configurations. The session provided valuable hands-on insights into preventing academic dishonesty and ensuring fairness and reliability in online examinations. The workshop also assessed the readiness of all CCIS staff in preparing secure online exams using SEB, reinforcing the university’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards in digital learning and assessment. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Sonia Victor Soans, PDC-DCIS.
