Achieving Sustainable Development Goals through Engineering

The Professional Development Committee (PDC) team of Engineering/UTAS-Nizwa, organized a seminar titled “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals through Engineering” on 9th December 2025. The session was conducted by Dr. Muthukumar.S, Lecturer in the Department of Engineering, College of Engineering and Technology,UTAS-Nizwa.
The session began with an welcome speech by Dr.Fakrudeen, PDC team coordinator of Engineering.
The session focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which provides a global framework to end poverty, protect the planet, and improve quality of life by 2030. Engineering plays a vital role in achieving these goals by delivering innovative, scalable, and practical solutions across all sectors. Electrical engineering supports clean and affordable energy, rural electrification, and smart infrastructure. Mechanical, chemical, and civil engineering contribute through sustainable machinery, clean water systems, green materials, resilient infrastructure, and climate-friendly technologies. Electronics, computer, and software engineering strengthen digital connectivity, automation, e-learning, telemedicine, and data-driven decision-making. Specialized fields such as biomedical, agricultural, petroleum, aerospace, mechatronics, and data science further advance health technologies, food security, renewable transitions, environmental monitoring, and intelligent systems. Together, engineering disciplines act as a powerful catalyst for sustainable global development, bridging innovation with societal and environmental needs.
Participants gained valuable knowledge to improve the quality and sustainable development through engineering.
The session ended with vote of thanks by Mr.Prashant, member of engineering PDC team.
