Students will prepare a range of technical drawings in different interior treatment topics, as well as sample boards for selected interior materials, which will reflect their understanding of this course.

This course provides fundamental knowledge and understanding of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems in buildings & their implementation in interior design.

Prerequisite: CIID2208
In this course we teach Rhino Software a powerful tool that can be used to generate complicated curvilinear forms, and respond well to geometric constraints and inputs. Rhino is used by interior designers in furniture design and lighting design. It enables students to utilize tools and methods to enhance their ability to explore, experiment, and represent in 3D. Understand the basic format and layout of the program and know its limitations. Learning 3D modeling of interior spaces and furniture modeling will help students to discover & create innovative Parametric, Blobitecture & Digital Morphogenesis Designs.

Prerequisite: CIDN1206
Color is an essential tool for any designer. Though each color has its own specific hue and value, the expression and perception of a color changes in different contexts. In this course, Students will learn how to work with color, discovering how to develop schemes for their design projects. The course will range from fundamental color concepts and terminology to the practical application of color in different design fields.

Semester 2

Prerequisite: CIID3109
The aim of the course is to inform the students about the flexible workplace strategies which are required to accommodate the rising mobile workforce with high-tech features. Students will study the collaborative office environments, as team and project-based work is becoming the predominant work style. The course will be studio based, covering all the requirements of the modern interior office design, starting from space allocation (departments allocation), Interior spaces requirements, Materials selection, Furniture design, Health & Safety measures.

This course will provide the student with the necessary knowledge and practical skills which are needed in the Interior design field to link between design stages and the final practical outcomes regarding furniture and interior construction. The course will introduce students to safety rules at wood workshops and interior construction sites, hand tools as well as hand power tools, and wood working machines.

This course introduces students to the art and science of building. Emphasis will be placed on gaining an understanding of construction materials, methods, and the process of translating design ideas into built form. Specific topics are introduced each week. These topics are then further, various design strategies, materials, fabrication techniques, and didactic built works are explored. As both a qualitative and a basic quantitative understanding of elementary systems are mastered.

The course introduces the students to the basic psychology of designing spaces and places for human occupancy. Concepts introduced provide students with a basic knowledge of crowding, territoriality, attitudes relative to personal space, personality, and the definition of space and privacy as they relate to both residential and non-residential environments. Other concepts include managing limited resources and the design of habitable environments.

This course abstracts the role of ethics in the profession of Design, what a profession is, how to get a job or start one, focuses on study and development of Basic Studio skills Design practice. Students will have the opportunity to study some famous Designers’ opinions about practicing Design, and interview some Omani designers as well, know how to study and analyze opinions and situations.

Semester 1

Prerequisite:CIID3213
This interior design studio will allow students to research real existing interior design problems in the area of sustainability and renovation of public spaces and work independently to solve these problems through their cumulative knowledge of interior design and its practical applications.

This course presents to students the basics and principles of acoustics and lighting of indoor spaces. Acoustics & Lighting course displays methods of identifying daylight and artificial lighting requirements for indoor spaces besides acoustic necessary treatments regarding space dimensions, design and affected function. This course also presents heating, ventilating and air conditioning Systems (HVAC) necessary for indoor spaces. It presents hardware solutions that meet international standards

Prerequisite: CIID3110
This course provides students with the essential theoretical knowledge, and the supportive technical abilities to design furniture. In addition to that, it provides the student with the necessary understanding of the methods, techniques, and the different stages of constructing Furniture

This studio will be a preparation for graduation project II. Students will apply human factors and evidence-based research as a way of uncovering creative solutions to various design problems. Projects during this studio will focus on the unique social, technological, economic, and cultural ways that people work in the diverse, global, and interconnected city of today and tomorrow. Students will engage with this activity through research, planning, programming, branding, and wayfinding. Through the understanding of historical precedent, current trends, and human needs and interconnectedness, students will consider innovative concepts for future places of work.

Semester 2

Prerequisite: CIID4120
Graduation Project II is a final design studio which is Linked to Graduation project I as an implementation of research in the previous studio. In this studio students will investigate existing spaces and develop designs starting from concept sketches and leading to design drawing documents and digital 3D drawings. They will develop their abilities in presenting, critiquing and exhibiting their design solutions

This course will provide students with the necessary knowledge about management, project management, as well as project planning and execution schedules and risk management. Creating bill of quantities and specifications and the necessary estimations for a project design and execution will be covered, as well as contract, tender documents, and career practice related methods and regulations.

Prerequisite: CIID3213
This course gives students the opportunity to explore and understand the concepts of digital and physical portfolio. A portfolio is an organized collection of documents from personal, learning, and professional achievements. Students carefully plan both the structure and content of the physical and the digital portfolio. A well-composed portfolio is essential when meeting with potential employers or clients. In this course, students plan and prepare to develop a unique portfolio of individual work and are encouraged to keep samples of work as they progress through coursework and careers.
