Business Studies Department - Taxation in Oman Seminar - December 10, 2023

Introduction:
On December 10, 2023, the Business Department organized a seminar on Taxation in Oman. The event aimed to educate students about the historical context of taxes in Oman, explore applicable rates for corporations and SMEs, and provide insights into Value Added Tax (VAT) and taxable supplies. The seminar featured two distinguished guest speakers from the Tax Authority: Mr. Yousuf al Samri, Director of the Taxpayer Department, and Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Saghai, Head of the Quality Section.

Mr. Yousuf al Samri - Director of Taxpayer Department:
Mr. Yousuf Al Samri delivered a comprehensive presentation on the history of taxes in Oman, offering students valuable insights into the evolution of taxation policies in the country. He highlighted key milestones, reforms, and the current state of taxation. Moreover, Mr. Yousuf Al Samri discussed the specific rates applicable to both corporations and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) operating in Oman, shedding light on the regulatory framework that governs these entities.
Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Saghai - Head of the Quality Section:
Mr. Al Saghai's presentation focused on Value Added Tax (VAT) and taxable supplies. He provided a detailed explanation of how VAT functions in Oman and elucidated the concept of taxable supplies.
