Bachelor of Science in Applied Biotechnology (Environmental Applied Biotechnology)

 

 

The program aims to produce graduates having knowledge and skills in the field of Applied Biotechnology. In Applied Biotechnology the focus is on imparting the knowledge and develop expertise that allow graduates to serve the sectors such as marine, food and agriculture, and environment aligned with Oman vision 2040.

 

 

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Biotechnology should enable the student to:

 

  •  Preparation of scientific personnel with needed abilities and expertise in Applied Biotechnology to work in the concerned sectors.
  •  Development of projects in Marine, Food and Agriculture, and Environmental Applied Biotechnology that meet the needs of the Sultanate of Oman.
  •  Providing hands-on experience in the educational laboratories and internship experience in industry and research laboratories.
  •  Utilization of advanced Biotechnology applications to solve existing problems.
  •  Development of partnerships with the public and private sectors in various fields of Applied Biotechnology.
  •  Exploration of entrepreneurship opportunities and business models, which lead to new job opportunities for Omani youth.

 

The student who satisfactorily completes the Bachelor of Science in Applied Biotechnology should be able to:

 

  •  Illustrate the correlation between structure and function at all levels of organization (organism, tissue, cells organelles and bio-molecules).
  •  Visualize the importance of genomics, proteomics of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and their application in biotechnology and in human welfare.
  •  Design, develop and apply various experimental skills and modern laboratory techniques to address biotechnological issues.
  •  Demonstrate an understanding of safety issues in the workplace related to the use of biohazards and hazardous chemicals.
  •  Use a variety of efficient and effective communication skills in the study of biotechnology.
  •  Use the scientific method to define and solve problems independently and collaboratively. Emphasize the capabilities of biotechnology in society, as well as its technical and ethical limitations.

 

The minimum requirements for application for entry into the program are: General Education Diploma with (Not less than C) in English language and with (Not less than D) in Pure Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry.
