The Fashion Design Program in UTAS aims to provide students with a high-quality fashion education according to the global job requirements, local market needs and adapted to the local social norms. To help students learn and practice skills that are necessary for graduates to be able to integrate in the professional industry. To create a bridge between the young entrepreneurs and local fashion industry professionals and be involved in professional integration of our students and graduates.
By completion of the program graduates will be able to:
- Assist the fashion design process from conception through to final styling. Conduct the market research to identify new trends, textiles, and techniques, seek design inspiration and select seasonal themes.
- Monitoring fashion collections and textiles purchase orders for apparel and textile companies in agreement with the business strategy. Deliver a purchase order report to the supervisors.
- Assist the photographer set the scene for a photograph or shoot, create unique looks from head to toe, pick fashionable outfits, borrow items or create fashion designs required for the shoot.
- Create fashion illustrations such as product sketches, technical drawings, and other works of art related to fashion industry using drawing and digital skills for newspapers, fashion magazines, apparel companies and designers.
- Use industrial sewing machines and equipment to make clothes.
- Assist during fittings, make sure the product, assembly, outfit is well executed and in line with the measures, deliver the alteration report to the supervisor.
Theoretical exam: basic knowledge of subject matter is required; Interview: assessment of student’s passion for subject matter; Completion of the Foundation Program.
The program was designed to prepare professionals such as Fashion Designer, Group Leader, Photo Stylist, Personal Stylist, Fashion Illustrator, Sewing Machinist, Textile Specialist, Assistant Pattern Drafter, Production Assistant, Fitting Assistant, Draping Assistant.;
