Staff Development Program on Academic Integrity and Honesty Policy-Semester-II 2024-2025
The College of Economics and Business Administration (CEBA) at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Salalah, organized a Staff Development Program on April 29, 2025, titled “Academic Integrity and Honesty Policy (Plagiarism Policy).” The program was coordinated by Dr. Mohammed Nazeer Ahmed, representative of the Staff Development Committee.
To ensure focused discussions and maximize engagement, the program was conducted section-wise under the supervision of the respective Heads of Units (HoUs). Each session was tailored to the specific academic needs of the section, encouraging interactive participation.
The Tourism and Supply Chain Management Section held its session in Room A-125, Building A. The session was facilitated by Dr. Islam El Bayoumi Salem and Dr. Mostafa Abdelaziz Elsaqqa.
The Accounting and Common Courses Section met in Room B001, Building B, with Mr. M. Pavan Kumar serving as the resource person.
The Human Resource Management and Marketing Section convened in Room B002, Building B, where Dr. Peeyush Dwivedi conducted the session.
The sessions focused on the updated Academic Integrity and Honesty Policy (SCT-AC-007-V2), reaffirming UTAS–Salalah’s commitment to promoting a culture of ethical academic conduct. The resource persons elaborated on the policy’s key components:
Purpose & Scope: Emphasizing the significance of academic integrity across all academic activities to uphold the university’s standards.
Definitions: Clarifying the concept of academic integrity and various forms of plagiarism.
Policy Commitment: Advocating proper citation practices and proactive responses to violations.
Examples of Plagiarism: Including direct copying, improper paraphrasing, unauthorized reuse of work, and data fabrication.
Academic Integrity Committee (AIC): Responsible for investigating cases and recommending disciplinary actions.
Sanctions: Ranging from warnings to dismissal, depending on the severity and frequency of the offense, applicable to both students and staff.
Use of Turnitin: Mandated for most written assignments, with structured feedback aimed at encouraging originality.
Student Rights & Privacy: Stressing content ownership, the right to withdraw from the repository, and the protection of personal data.
Conclusion:
The program underscored UTAS–Salalah’s dedication to academic excellence through integrity. The resource persons effectively clarified the key elements of the policy, institutional procedures, and the use of Turnitin. The sessions reinforced the university’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and respect for intellectual property in all academic endeavors.
