HOD Message

CAE HOS

In the English Department, we believe it is our mission to provide English language teaching of the highest quality, meeting international standards. Our dedicated staff integrate technology and innovative methods in their teaching, enabling our students to attain higher levels of academic and professional English proficiency. We firmly believe that our students’ growth and wellbeing should be the focus of all our efforts, reflecting our commitment to a constructivist and transformative philosophy of education.

We strive to create a family-like environment where all members work harmoniously towards the common good. We share responsibilities with academic and research institutions, working towards knowledge transmission and production, innovation, and future-oriented education. Recognizing the needs of the Omani community, we undertake extracurricular activities such as workshops, public lectures, and language classes. We also actively encourage the English Club, which motivates students to use English outside the classroom.

Therefore, the English Department endeavors to attract talented students and qualified staff to realize its vision, implement its mission, and achieve its professional and ethical goals. Our department is committed to the teaching profession and to providing the best possible learning and research environment for our students and staff to grow academically and professionally. We expect our staff to be excellent teachers and serious researchers, as well as facilitators in promoting student autonomy and responsibility. Conversely, we expect our students to be proactive adult learners, preparing themselves for careers in education and the broader labor sector.

The main objective of our department is to prepare the Sultanate’s future English teachers. Therefore, we approach our students both as learners and future educators. However, we are aware that many of our graduates will work in various fields such as ministries, the armed forces, the police, translation offices, or businesses. Thus, our program also seeks to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills in linguistics, the English language and literature, educational studies and policy, English language teaching, translation, and research.
