Mastering Efficiency Analysis Using MAX DEA: A Training Workshop
The Staff Development Committee of the Department of Economics and Business Administration recently organized a specialized training workshop titled Mastering Efficiency Analysis Using MAX DEA, held on December 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM in BS 133. The session was led by Dr. Shakeb Akhtar, Lecturer – Accounting and Finance and an expert in quantitative research methods and efficiency analysis.
The workshop introduced participants to MAX DEA, a powerful software designed for conducting Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) - a methodology widely used to measure efficiency and performance across industries. DEA enables researchers to evaluate decision-making units (such as banks, universities, or departments) by comparing inputs and outputs, offering valuable insights into productivity and resource utilization.
To demonstrate the software’s capabilities, Dr. Akhtar presented his own research study Measuring the Performance of the Indian Banking Industry: Data Envelopment Window Analysis Approach. Participants learned how the window analysis approach allows researchers to track changes in efficiency across multiple periods, making it particularly useful for industries undergoing rapid transformation. The case study illustrated how Indian banks were evaluated for operational efficiency, offering staff a concrete example of how similar techniques could be applied in their own academic and institutional research.
The Department of Economics and Business Administration reaffirmed its commitment to providing opportunities that enhance staff expertise in cutting-edge research methodologies. Workshops like this not only build technical skills but also foster a culture of innovation and evidence-based decision-making within the university.
