Industrial Visit to the Ministry of Information – Oman Television

An industrial visit was organized by the Department of Engineering, University of Technology and Applied Sciences – Ibra, to the Ministry of Information, Oman Television on 27th October 2025.

The objective of the visit was to provide students with real-time exposure to media technology, broadcasting systems, and the information technology infrastructure that supports national television operations. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and its practical application in the media and communication industry.

A total of 16 students from the Department of Engineering participated in the visit, which was accompanied by Dr. Amjath Ali J, Lecturer, Department of Engineering.

The visit began with a formal welcome session by the officials of Oman Television, who provided an overview of the organizational structure and functions of the Ministry of Information. The students were then taken on a guided tour of various departments, including broadcast control rooms, editing studios, IT support units, and digital media production areas.

Technical experts explained the critical role of information technology in content management, digital broadcasting, and live transmission systems. The students observed demonstrations on how broadcast networks are deployed and maintained, and how computer systems, servers, and specialized software are used for program scheduling, database management, and network monitoring.

The IT department also showcased the deployment of digital infrastructure, such as content servers, storage systems, and automation tools that enhance efficiency in broadcasting operations. This exposure helped students connect theoretical IT concepts like networking, database management, and cybersecurity with real-world professional practices.

The visit proved to be a valuable learning experience, enhancing students’ understanding of how information technology is integrated into the broadcasting and media industry. They gained insights into the use of data transmission, editing software, and cloud-based systems that ensure smooth and efficient television operations.

The Department of Engineering appreciates the Ministry of Information, Oman Television, for their warm hospitality and valuable knowledge-sharing session that significantly contributed to the students’ technical learning experience.
