Advanced Diploma of Technology in Computer Engineering

 

This program aims to provide high quality education and equip graduates with integrated knowledge in science, engineering and technology that will inculcate best practices in students and develop excellent problem-solving and reasoning skills. This program imparts blend of technologies, underpinning knowledge and research skills for a higher-level competence and motivate them to pursue higher education and lifelong learning.

 

 

The graduate will have the ability to:

  1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering in computer-based systems and analyze system performance trade-offs.  
  2. Design system components, processes and solutions for engineering problems that meet specific needs with appropriate consideration for the public health, safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  3. Utilize the techniques, skills, advanced information, latest software, and modern engineering tools required for Computer Engineering systems. 
  4. Develop skills to experiment, evaluate, and interpret results in Computer Engineering principles that underpin knowledge and self-learning to enhance a successful career in computer engineering.
  5. Identify, formulate, and solve specialized Computer Engineering problems to promote advanced entrepreneurial skills.
  6. Analyze and prepare reports to make effective presentations with wide range of audience.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues in Computer Engineering and related disciplines.

Allotment to the Computer Engineering specialization is based on the CGPA scored by the student in First Year Diploma. Requirements to progress to Advanced Diploma in Computer Engineering:

  •  Student must complete Diploma in Computer Engineering successfully with CGPA ≥ 2.5 in scale of 4.
  •  IELTS band Score ≥4.5 or the FDL Mark should be ≥ 64 .
  •  Lateral entry of students is governed by UTAS bylaws.

Semester 1

 

The course aims to provide the underpinning knowledge in Engineering Drawing and enable the students to produce high quality engineering drawing using manual and computer aided drafting techniques.

The course aims to provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge in Physics mainly related to the topics on measurements, motion, energy, power, optics and sound.

The course aims to introduce the students to the basic concepts of engineering chemistry which form an integral part of those majoring in Engineering and an essential background for those majoring in other disciplines

The course aims to equip the graduates with problem solving, programming skills and to apply real time programming approaches in all engineering disciplines through any latest computer programming languages like python.

The course aims to provide an understanding and awareness of workplace hazards, risks and industrial safety and to impart necessary skills and competence.

Semester 2

The course aims to equip and enhance the students with hands on structured experience on basic engineering practices adhering to safety regulations.

The course aims to provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge in Physics mainly related to the topics on electricity, electromagnetism, heat, thermodynamics and modern physics.

The course aims to introduce students to renewable energy resources: availability, potential and suitability as a substitute for conventional energy resources for future energy demands.

The course aims to introduce the students to the basic concepts in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and enable them to understand the principles and analyze electrical DC and AC circuits and different applications of electronic semiconductor devices.

The course aims to provide students with an understanding of the design of digital combinational and sequential logic circuits as well as the design of programmable logic devices.

The course aims to provide knowledge of fundamental concepts of different technologies used for developing websites and apply it in real-time to create and publish websites.

The course aims to introduce the students to theoretical and practical knowledge of a computer system and to enable them to solve hardware and software related problems.

The course aims to introduce students to underlying principles of computer networks and design network architectures with reasonable effort and prepare them to undertake LAN and WAN access mechanisms, routing algorithms and related issues.

The course aims to provide students with an understanding of microprocessor and microcontroller systems and their use in instrumentation/ control/ communications/ and computing systems.

The course aims to introduce the students to the practical electronics and modern electronics software; to enhance the students’ skills and level of confidence in electronics and circuits analysis through design, implementation, and troubleshooting of simple electronic circuits and by constructing mini electronics projects.

The course aims to introduce students with advance computer networks topics like network protocols and architecture and various aspects of networking like congestion, link-layer, network-layer, and transport-layer technologies, traffic analysis, switching and routing.

The course aims to provide the concepts of database management system and equip the students to design and implement a database application using advanced concepts.

The course aims to provide students with a full understanding of the architecture and organization of computer systems, the recent improvements and technologies and their effects on the performance of computers.

The course aims to impart the knowledge of common data structures that are employed in a variety of computing challenges enabling the students to learn how to create, analyze and evaluate these data structures in (Python) programming language.

The course aims to prepare students for an entry-level position as a system administrator of open-source operating systems like Linux.

This course aims to provide basic knowledge of digital signal processing in the field of computer engineering with the latest developments and also gives exposure to the software and hardware applications with digital signal processing.
