Diploma of Technology in Mechanical Engineering

 

The program provides quality education and training in the field of Mechanical Engineering with special emphasis to provide essential technical skills at a technician level, suitable for the employment market and also to enable aspiring graduates intending to pursue higher academic progression to Advanced Diploma program.

 

 

The graduates will have the ability to:

  1. Describe the basic scientific and engineering principles with applications in solving Mechanical Engineering problems.  
  2. Adhere to the practices and procedures of Health, Safety and Environment.
  3. Describe various variables of Mechanical Engineering and draw the conclusions through analyzing and interpreting the data.  
  4. Communicate effectively the ideas and work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.  
  5. Demonstrate substantial entrepreneurship skills to serve Mechanical Engineering related industries.  
  6. Acquire the knowledge and skills in order to engage in lifelong learning with critical thinking.

Semester 1

 

The course aims to provide the underpinning knowledge in Engineering Drawing and enable the students to produce high quality engineering drawing using manual and computer aided drafting techniques.

The course aims to provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge in Physics mainly related to the topics on measurements, motion, energy, power, optics and sound.

The course aims to introduce the students to the basic concepts of engineering chemistry which form an integral part of those majoring in Engineering and an essential background for those majoring in other disciplines

The course aims to equip the graduates with problem solving, programming skills and to apply real time programming approaches in all engineering disciplines through any latest computer programming languages like python.

The course aims to provide an understanding and awareness of workplace hazards, risks and industrial safety and to impart necessary skills and competence.

Semester 2

Prerequisite:FPMP0003

The course aims to equip and enhance the students with hands on structured experience on basic engineering practices adhering to safety regulations.

Prerequisite:PHYS1110
The course aims to provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge in Physics mainly related to the topics on electricity, electromagnetism, heat, thermodynamics and modern physics.

The course aims to introduce students to renewable energy resources: availability, potential and suitability as a substitute for conventional energy resources for future energy demands.

Semester 1

The course aims to enable students to acquire knowledge and skills in the field of Engineering Mechanics which lays the foundation for further studies in areas such as Mechanics of Materials, Theory of Machines, Fluid Mechanics and Machine Design.

 

Prerequisite:CHEM1120

The course aims to provide the students with the fundamental knowledge on structure/properties of engineering materials, material testing methods and their suitability for engineering applications.

 

Prerequisite:PHYS1220

The course aims to provide the student with the practical knowledge of electrical principles and applications of instrumentation and industrial control in the field of Engineering.

The course aims to communicate necessary technical information required for manufacture and assembly of machine components using graphical methods by following the International standards.

The course aims to impart theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of manufacturing processes and gain necessary skills in operating different machine tools.

This course aims to enable the students to understand the phenomenon and characteristics of fluid flow, frictional losses in pipes and dimensional analysis.

Prerequisite:PHYS1220
This course aims to impart theoretical and practical knowledge of Thermodynamics using a comprehensive approach and apply the concepts of thermodynamics in the field of engineering.

Prerequisite:EGME2210**
The course aims to provide the students to apply the necessary technical knowledge and skills to successfully complete the project work appropriate to the level.
