The OQ Hackathon for Digital Sustainability, held on 20–21 September 2024, provided a platform for innovative solutions in sustainability and digital technology. The Engineering and Technology Department at UTAS-Nizwa participated with the project "Home Automation: Water Supply and Water Tank Monitoring System over IoT" under the supervision of Dr. Wisam. Their innovative solution won the prestigious Best Prototype Prize.

The Role of Innovation Culture and AI Ethics in Institutions

 

This workshop highlighted the significance of fostering a culture of innovation and embedding AI ethics within institutions. Key topics included:

  • Innovation Culture: Understanding the concept and importance of promoting innovation in organizational environments.
  • Impact of AI Ethics: Exploring how ethical AI practices can shape institutional values, operations, and trust.
  • Challenges in Innovation Culture: Identifying obstacles that institutions face when building a sustainable innovation culture.
  • Core Principles and Ethical Challenges: Discussing the fundamental ethics in AI, including transparency, fairness, and accountability.
  • Institutional Responsibility: Outlining the role of institutions in developing policies and frameworks that guide ethical AI usage.

The session concluded by emphasizing the need for institutions to adopt a proactive approach in balancing innovation with ethical AI practices, fostering responsible growth and trust.
