IEEE Region 8 Local Student Paper Contest 2024
On 27th of November 2024, IEEE Oman Section and University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Ibra branch through the IEEE UTAS-Ibra Student branch has successfully hosted the annual IEEE Region 8 Local Student Paper Contest 2024.
This year’s contest focused on the exciting theme emerging trends in engineering. It was a platform for undergraduate students to showcase their innovative research and ideas, foster creativity, demontrate their critical thinking, and polish their professional development among peers.
The event was participated by over 150 attendees, 60 of whom are student authors from various universities and colleges across the Sultanate, submitting a total of 20 papers in the contest.
Out of the 20 papers, 3 were selected by experts judging panel in different fields of engineering.

The winners of this contest will get a chance to get selected for the IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest.
The event was graced with the presence of the IEEE Oman Section Chair Dr. Ahmed Al Maashri, and Dr. Yousuf Al Husaini and Dr. Abdelazeem ElTaweil as keynote speakers.
A huge congratulations to the IEEE UTAS-Ibra Student Branch spearheaded by the student branch mentor Dr. Sami Al Ghnimi and the student branch counselor Dr. Shamganth K for the event’s resounding success.
A heartfelt gratitude is in place for our AVC, Dr. Hafedh, and the entire UTAS-Ibra branch administration for their indefatigable support and commitment.
