IEEE UTAS-Ibra Student Branch- Robotics Professional Team Empowers Local Students Through Community Workshop on “Building Robots and Programming with Code Block”
The IEEE UTAS-Ibra Student Branch “Robotics Professional Team”, in a collaborative effort to promote STEM education and community engagement, successfully conducted a robotics workshop at Lazq Primary School in Mudhabi, Oman on April 8, 2025. This initiative, a testament to the university's commitment to outreach, was carried out under the guidance of Mr. Donnie C. Solano and with the invaluable support of Department Head Dr.Sami Ghnimi and Section Head Dr. Shamganth from the Engineering Department.
The workshop, held from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, provided primary school students with a hands-on introduction to robotics and programming. Following a comprehensive program overview delivered by Mr. Faisal Saoud Ahmed Al-Battashi, Mr. Omar Hamood Ahmed Al-Batrani, and Mr. Sulaiman Saif Aamir Al-Jahdhami, participants engaged in practical exercises designed to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Members of the robotics professional team, including a dedicated participant from CCC, facilitated the workshop, demonstrating the programming process using industry-standard languages such as Python, C++, and Code Blocks. Each robot component was meticulously explained, followed by live demonstrations of program writing and execution.
To encourage active learning and creativity, participants were challenged to apply their newly acquired knowledge by developing and implementing their own programming plans for various robot components. The facilitators provided continuous guidance and support, ensuring a productive and engaging learning environment.
This community service activity, organized by the student departmental society and the IEEE UTAS-Ibra Student branch “Robotics Professional Team”, underscores the university's dedication to nurturing young minds and contributing to the technological advancement of the local community. By providing accessible and practical STEM education, we aim to inspire the next generation of engineers and innovators.
