To produce competent graduates who can lead successful project delivery and who apply their engineering, management and research skills to accurately evaluate construction projects in contribution to the national economy and social wellbeing while maintaining high ethical standards.

 

 

The graduates will have the ability to:

  1. Apply the relevant ethical practices in their work.  
  2. Analyze the drawings, specifications, construction materials, components, services, and processes commonly used in projects as well as the concept of load transfer in buildings.
  3. Develop bills of quantities for projects including relevant services and supporting works using traditional methods as well as industry-standard software packages.  
  4. Demonstrate an awareness of the contractual and management practices involved in construction projects.  
  5. Show sufficient English competency to present technical ideas in their profession.  
  6. Apply their organization and time management skills.  
  7. Work autonomously on tasks as well as part of a team. 

 

  •   Student must complete Advanced Diploma in Quantity Surveying and Cost Engineering successfully with CGPA ≥ 2.75 in scale of 4.
  •   IELTS band Score ≥ 5 or the FDL Mark should be ≥ 71
  •   Lateral entry of students is governed by UTAS bylaws.

Semester 1

 

The course aims to provide the underpinning knowledge in Engineering Drawing and enable the students to produce high quality engineering drawing using manual and computer aided drafting techniques.

The course aims to provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge in Physics mainly related to the topics on measurements, motion, energy, power, optics and sound.

The course aims to introduce the students to the basic concepts of engineering chemistry which form an integral part of those majoring in Engineering and an essential background for those majoring in other disciplines

The course aims to equip the graduates with problem solving, programming skills and to apply real time programming approaches in all engineering disciplines through any latest computer programming languages like python.

The course aims to provide an understanding and awareness of workplace hazards, risks and industrial safety and to impart necessary skills and competence.

The course aims to equip and enhance the students with hands on structured experience on basic engineering practices adhering to safety regulations.

The course aims to provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge in Physics mainly related to the topics on electricity, electromagnetism, heat, thermodynamics and modern physics.

The course aims to introduce students to renewable energy resources: availability, potential and suitability as a substitute for conventional energy resources for future energy demands.

The course aims to enable the student to understand the building standards regulating construction in the region and produce working drawings for buildings and building works through (Automatic Computer Aided Designing Tools)

The course aims to impart knowledge of construction and its components including materials and processes used for building construction including the substructure, superstructure and finishes.

 

The course aims to impart knowledge of the services used in construction projects including water supply, drainage, electrical connections, HVAC, firefighting arrangements and building management systems.

 

The course aims to familiarize the student with the interpretation and use of appropriate rules of measurement and to impart quantification skills for the development of a Bill of Quantities for residential / commercial buildings by using the appropriate measurement standards.

The course aims to impart knowledge of contractual and legislative requirements of a construction project including the parties and processes involved.

The course aims to impart the knowledge about the principles of surveying, use a range of survey equipment in the field to measure and prepare the required data for civil engineering works.

The course aims to familiarize the student with basic tests conducted on construction materials and to impart knowledge of building demolition and infrastructure projects and their components including materials and processes used.

The course aims to impart quantification skills for the development of a Bill of Quantities including retaining walls, external works, building services, finishes and demolition by using the appropriate measurement standards.

The course aims to impart the basic knowledge of structural analysis and design of structural elements for simple buildings.

The course aims to impart knowledge of construction activities like deep foundations, precast and pre-stressed structures, temporary structures and their components including materials, equipment and processes used.

The course aims to impart cost planning skills for the development of a cost estimate for construction projects using the appropriate standards and methods.

The course aims to impart quantification skills for the development of a Bill of Quantities for infrastructure projects such as culverts and roads including slope protection and utilities.

The course aims to impart knowledge of the concepts of value, micro- and macro-economics and their relevance to the decision-making process in construction projects.

The main aim of the course is to acquire the knowledge in project planning and management with essential components in management principles.

The course aims to familiarize the student with tests conducted on soil and concrete and to impart knowledge of building repair and complex construction projects like airports, dams, stadiums ports and harbors and their components including materials and processes used.

The course aims to impart quantification skills for the development of a Bill of Quantities for complex construction projects such as bridges, tunnels, precast, pre-stressed and steel structures.

The course aims to impart knowledge of the administrative procedures necessary for fulfilment of a construction contract including the pre- and post-contract processes as per the prevalent standard forms.

The course aims to enable the student to produce working drawings for different types of civil engineering structures through (Automatic Computer Aided Designing Tools), and provide a basic overview of the technologies and workflows that engineer can use to digitize the Built Environment in the context of (Building Information Modelling).

The course aims to impart basic knowledge of the relevant laws of the Sultanate of Oman and how they apply to construction projects including the selection of appropriate forms of contract and the procedures to be followed in cases of claimed breaches.

The course aims at providing an overview of the research methodologies including the concepts employed in quantitative and qualitative research methods and computer applications in the field of research.

The course aims to impart quantification skills for the development of a tender proposal including Bill of Quantities and estimates for construction projects using prevalent computer software.

The course aims to impart knowledge of the accounting procedures and tools used in construction projects such as ledgers, balance sheets and common financial indicators.
