Advanced Diploma of Technology in Geomatics Engineering

 

Train the students for a career as Geo spatial professionals with high level of expertise in the date collection, processing, analyzing, and managing the geo spatial data. As well as to develop the students in cadastral surveying to demonstrate their knowledge to support national and local surveying authorities

 

 

The graduate should have the ability to:

  1. Acquire the ability to map and develop of application in geo spatial field to analyze and writing reports. 
  2. Ability to work on multidisciplinary problem-solving teams.
  3. Acquire the knowledge to recognize, communicate and resolve the geomatics and remote sensing related problems. 
  4. Secure knowledge on the drone technology and its applications.
  5. Understanding the impact of spatial information technology on society.
  6. Acquire independent knowledge to solve contemporary issues.
  7. Understanding the impact of spatial information technology on society.
  8. Proficient in self-learning skills and clearly understand the professional and ethical responsibilities.
  9. Perform a boundary survey and preparation of a plot using appropriate standards and laws.

Allotment to the Geomatics Engineering specialization is based on the CGPA scored by the student in First Year Diploma. Requirements to progress to Advanced Diploma in Geomatics Engineering:

  •  Student must complete Diploma in Mechanical Engineering successfully with CGPA ≥ 2.5 in scale of 4.
  •  IELTS band Score ≥4.5 or the FDL Mark should be ≥ 64 (Reference: 1. MoMP Bylaws of College of Technology & its Amendments).

Semester 1

 

The course aims to provide the underpinning knowledge in Engineering Drawing and enable the students to produce high quality engineering drawing using manual and computer aided drafting techniques.

The course aims to provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge in Physics mainly related to the topics on measurements, motion, energy, power, optics and sound.

The course aims to introduce the students to the basic concepts of engineering chemistry which form an integral part of those majoring in Engineering and an essential background for those majoring in other disciplines

The course aims to equip the graduates with problem solving, programming skills and to apply real time programming approaches in all engineering disciplines through any latest computer programming languages like python.

The course aims to provide an understanding and awareness of workplace hazards, risks and industrial safety and to impart necessary skills and competence.

Semester 2

The course aims to equip and enhance the students with hands on structured experience on basic engineering practices adhering to safety regulations.

The course aims to provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge in Physics mainly related to the topics on electricity, electromagnetism, heat, thermodynamics and modern physics.

The course aims to introduce students to renewable energy resources: availability, potential and suitability as a substitute for conventional energy resources for future energy demands.

Semester 1

 

Prerequisite:MATH1200.

The course aims to deals with the introduction to surveying that includes definition of surveying, types of surveying and the surveying instruments. It follows with the discussion of the errors and mistakes in surveying measurement and simple statistics as well for determining the precision, accuracy, and most probable value. It will be followed by discussing the measurements of horizontal and vertical distances, angles, and direction. Finally, traverse computation and area computation by different methods are also discussed.

The course aims to covers basic cartographic rules such as map object classification, generalization, symbolization in topographic and thematic map design. Develops critical thinking on maps and design of maps by using different tools of cartography.

This course aims to introduce basic concepts of geodesy such as different earth model and coordinate system used in the surveying.

The course aims to includes types of route and construction surveys, highway cross section elements, highway alignment, horizontal and vertical controls, types of horizontal curves, elements of horizontal curves and laying out of simple curves, types of vertical curves, elements of vertical curves and laying out of crest and sag vertical curves, area and volumes of earthworks and mass diagrams.

The course aims to provide direct and indirect method of leveling to determine the elevation of points. Leveling is used to provide necessary data for engineering design and construction. Process of obtaining and locating contours will be discussed in order to create of topographic map which can be utilized by allied specializations.

The course aims to provide knowledge on basic principles, instrument used for data collection, analysis and visualization associated with hydrographic surveying.

The course aims to introduce the principles of image formation, electromagnetic spectrum, imaging systems, and various satellite platforms and sensors used for different applications.

The course aims to introduce the basic GIS and its analytical capabilities, Components, Geodatabases, raster and vector models, GIS spatial analysis, analytical function such quarrying, overlaying and modeling.

The course aims to provide knowledge in different types of property surveys, establishment of control points, and the coordinates system used in Oman, the different types of property plans and the rules and regulations applied regarding properties.

The course aims to covers the data collection, data input, data storage and analysis in GIS package for various applications and projects.

The course aims to focus on the application of surveying principles in construction and industrial works. Conduct survey work and prepare survey plans for engineering works. Calculate and analyze earthworks quantities and layout several types of construction works.

Prerequisite:EGGE3110
The course aims to introduce the mathematics behind in the photogrammetry as well as collinearity conditions, geometry of stereo model and orientation of aerial photographs will be demonstrated for mapping and surveying.
