Graduating qualification of competence nationally and internationally in Advanced Diploma in Chemical Engineering with a solid foundation of scientific and technical knowledge and are equipped with problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills and able to maintain their professional practices and to pursue bachelor's level programs.

 

 

Graduate of advanced diploma in Chemical Engineering are able to:

Semester 1

 

The course aims to provide the underpinning knowledge in Engineering Drawing and enable the students to produce high quality engineering drawing using manual and computer aided drafting techniques.

The course aims to provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge in Physics mainly related to the topics on measurements, motion, energy, power, optics and sound.

The course aims to introduce the students to the basic concepts of engineering chemistry which form an integral part of those majoring in Engineering and an essential background for those majoring in other disciplines

The course aims to equip the graduates with problem solving, programming skills and to apply real time programming approaches in all engineering disciplines through any latest computer programming languages like python.

The course aims to provide an understanding and awareness of workplace hazards, risks and industrial safety and to impart necessary skills and competence.

Semester 2

The course aims to equip and enhance the students with hands on structured experience on basic engineering practices adhering to safety regulations.

The course aims to provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge in Physics mainly related to the topics on electricity, electromagnetism, heat, thermodynamics and modern physics.

The course aims to introduce students to renewable energy resources: availability, potential and suitability as a substitute for conventional energy resources for future energy demands.

This course aims to impart the basic concepts of thermodynamics, principle of conservation of energy applied to thermodynamic systems, laws of thermodynamics, volumetric and thermodynamic properties of pure fluids, and developing property relation equations (Solution thermodynamics), vapour-liquid equilibrium, chemical reaction equilibrium and industrial applications of thermodynamics.

Prerequisite:CHEM1120
This course aims to introduce students to the chemical engineering profession and to introduce concepts related to materials and energy balances. The course is designed to address the following topics: the chemical engineering profession, units and dimensions, unit operations and processes, material balances for single and multiple units with and without chemical reactions and energy balances with and without chemical reactions.

This course aims to provide the fundamental concepts of fluid mechanics, importance of fluid mechanics principles in chemical process industries, pressure measurement techniques in flow systems, mass, energy and momentum continuity equations, Bernoulli’s equation, pressure and energy losses in pipes, flow over spherical and non-spherical objects, fluid mechanics perspective of fluidized bed, packed bed, pumps, fans, blowers and compressors.

This course aims to provide the students with the understanding of the basic concepts and principles of industrial applications organic chemistry & apply these concepts in the study of the chemistry of hydrocarbons and simple mono-functional group compounds.

Semester 2

This course aims to equip students with an understanding of reaction kinetics, chemical equilibria, and the principles of chemical reactor analysis and design. The mole balances; energy balances of batch reactor, continuous stirred tank reactor, plug flow reactor, and packed bed reactor will be discussed including conversion and reactor sizing, rate laws and stoichiometry, Isothermal reactor design, collection and analysis of rate data for single and multiple reactions, and steady state and non-isothermal design and introduce the students to catalysts, and catalytic reactor design.

This course aims to impart the students with the fundamental concepts of heat transfer in chemical process industries, examine the modes used in transferring the heat and acquire the problem-solving skills required for the effective heat transfer engineering practice in real-world applications.

Prerequisite:EGCH2140
This course aims to study the origin and chemistry of petroleum and petrochemicals and the physical and chemical processes to convert crude oil into desired products. The course introduces the cracking process used in petroleum and petrochemical industries. The chemical reactions, products, by-products of primary and secondary refinery processes are covered. This includes fractional distillation, catalytic cracking process and production of a high-grade gasoline including Fischer Tropsch process and testing the properties of petroleum and petrochemical products.

This course aims to present an overview of the environment and the application of fundamental principles of environmental engineering, fostering social responsibility and awareness of global environmental concerns in students. To impart a firm background in environmental pollution control, methods and applications resolute on water, air, and solid waste quality engineering. To understand environmental impact assessment. This encourages students to make decisions and inferences to solve environmental problems by incorporating various interdisciplinary aspects.

This course aims to set forth knowledge regarding the sources and segmental manufacturing processes of foremost industrial chemical products and their industrial applications along with their technological advancements in manufacturing processes.

Prerequisite:EGCH2130
This course aims to elaborate the basic theories of solid particles properties in the chemical processing and separations such as particle sizing, reduction, classification, filtration, centrifuging, sedimentation and fluidization. Application in chemical processing as case studies to be discussed specially in mineral processing and reactor designs.

This course aims to enable students to understand the basic principles of mass transfer. Apply the principles of mass transfer to the analysis and design of equilibrium stage and continuous contacting separation processes, molecular diffusion in fluids and solids using correlation and theories, Interpret the theories of mass transfer for individual and overall mass transfer coefficients, absorption and adsorption equipment, equipment used for liquid extraction, leaching, cooling tower, drier, and crystallizer used for Industrial applications.

Understanding the nature, composition and application of various engineering materials such as metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites. To acquire knowledge of properties, structure, and characterization of materials and testing.

This course aims to present an overview of energy, forms of energy, energy conversion, and the impact of energy conversion & energy consumption on the environment. The fundamental principles of energy engineering will be discussed concerning energy efficiency and conservation, energy storage, nuclear energy, renewable energies such as solar energy, and biomass. This acquaintance will impart the prominence of energy conversion efficiency and renewable energy preferences in monitoring environment protection.

This course aims to enable the students to acquire a complete knowledge of design procedures commonly used in process industries. It also helps to understand the mechanical and process design methods for various process equipment.
